CHFA has recently partnered with
Kyle Jones, top-ranked Canadian male triathlete and the youngest member of the Canadian Men’s Triathlon Team competing in the World Championship Series in 2012. As an athlete, and someone who regularly uses natural health products (NHPs), Kyle has been helping CHFA
share simple solutions that anyone can incorporate into their lifestyle to ensure they are functioning at their best.
Studies show that, as a whole, Canadians are making a more conscious effort to live healthier lives. A recent Ipsos Reid
survey, commissioned by CHFA, indicates that more than half (57%) of Canadians are making healthier food choices and incorporating additional physical activites into their daily lives (40%).
CHFA suggests a variety of simple options that anyone can use in their daily routine to help them function at their best during the holiday season and all winter long:
Stay Hydrated - While nearly half (49%) of Canadians have started or increased their water consumption, it’s important to not get confused into thinking that all beverages will hydrate you. Make sure you are drinking pure water throughout the day and don’t rely on thirst alone to moderate your consumption.
Get some ZZZZZZs - Nothing increases energy like getting a good night’s sleep. Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep a night.
Take your vitamins: Over 70% of Canadians use natural health products (NHPs) as part of their healthy lifestyle. NHPs are used for a number of health reasons, like the prevention or treatment of an illness or condition, the reduction of health risks and the maintenance of good health. CHFA suggests consulting with your healthcare practitioner to learn about the different safe and effective NHPs available to use as a part of your ongoing healthcare regimen.
Eat right - Many Canadians anticipate they will adopt some behaviours during the winter that will not be optimal for their overall health, including eating foods with higher carbohydrate, fat and/or sugar content (40%). The human body requires a diet full of whole grains, fruits, vegetables and protein in order to function properly.
Exercise: A regular exercise plan can help control weight, fight disease, improve mood and boost energy. It’s important to incorporate as much physical activity into your day-to-day life as possible.
